One In Three Seniors Dies With Alzheimer’s or Dementia

One in three seniors die with dementia, Alzheimer’s – CBS News.

A new study from the Alzheimer’s Association shows that one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. *Note: dying “with” Alzheimer’s/dementia is not the same thing as dying “from” Alzheimer’s/dementia. (For example, strokes can cause dementia. If you have a severe case of dementia, you can become bed bound. Being bed bound creates a gamut of problems- often these individuals end up dying from pneumonia.)

The numbers of seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia is expected to double by the year 2050. This creates a large burden on society in the form of health care costs; not to mention the financial and emotional burden on families. Presently, there are only a few drugs that can help individuals with Alzheimer’s (by slowing memory loss). These help only minimally. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s and more research is needed.

This article is super- with LOTS of good information. For example, there are a few additional videos included. One video discusses foods you can eat NOW to make your brain healthier (thus reducing or postponing memory loss).
